(CNN) — A newly revealed, centuries-old papyrus fragment suggests that some early Christians might have believed Jesus was married. The fragment, written in Coptic, a language used by Egyptian Christians, says in part, “Jesus said to them, ‘My wife …”

Harvard Divinity School Professor Karen King announced the findings of the 1 1/2- by 3-inch honey-colored fragment on Tuesday in Rome at the International Association for Coptic Studies.

King has been quick to add this discovered text “does not, however, provide evidence that the historical Jesus was married,” she wrote in a draft of her analysis of the fragment set to appear in the January edition of Harvard Theological Review. 1. This ties in perfectly with a conversation I was having this past weekend. A friend and teacher of mine, who happens to be a Catholic priest and artist, held an art show devoted to the sacred feminine. He was explaining how he believed that when the church raises up the feminine energy to balance with the masculine energy, only then will the “true resurrection” occur. However you want to interpret that, I think we’re on the cusp of it.

    • Wow! That’s a fascinating idea! There is also the idea in Kabbalah that Mashiach is the product of becoming God’s partner and birthing something into the world out of this relationship. The feminine energy in religious terms is thus that which enables us to be God’s partner, identifying with the law at the level of He Who Thought it, and walking in God’s ways at the level of He Who Willed it. On the feminine spectrum this is serving God as Wife, after we have served God as Daughter out of love, we serve God out of deep identification. This then produces offspring in the world, the way we live and what we do when intimate with God in such a way.

    • Right on! I think it will happen in all traditions, and with Saturn in Scorpio I think we will be delightfully surprised that it can happen in a non-threatening manner, because until now it has been either traditional or revolutionary and/or divisive.
